2.1.14 Molex Power Connectors - Notes
Molex is a legacy 4-pin power connector used to supply power from the PSU to older internal components. Modern devices usually use SATA power connectors instead.
Molex Wire Color Codes

| Red | 5V DC | Powers logic circuits |
| Black | Ground | Ground, with two pins used |
Physical description: white or clear plastic housing with 4 pins total.
Key Things to Remember
- Data cables carry data only, so power always needs a separate connector.
- Newer devices use the SATA power connector with 15 pins.
- Legacy devices use the Molex power connector with 4 pins.
- Some devices include both SATA and Molex connectors.
- DC means direct current, which is unidirectional electrical flow and what powers internal components.
