1.2.5 Establish a New Theory or Escalate - Quick Notes
If your theory fails, form a new one. Before running long or disruptive tests, ask whether there is a simpler workaround.
Last Resort Diagnostic
Strip the system to its base configuration, meaning the minimum needed to run, then add components back one by one and test each time until the problem reappears.
When to Escalate
If you cannot solve it, stop burning time and escalate.
Escalation Routes
- Internal: senior staff, subject matter experts, and developers.
- External: vendors or manufacturers through warranty coverage or support contracts.
- Other: consultants, websites, and social media. Get authorization first and never share confidential or personal information publicly.
When Escalating
Document everything you have tried so far and describe the problem clearly to whoever takes over.
